Alena works at the intersection of PostgreSQL query planning and adaptive optimization. Her recent focus is on adaptive join switching and re-optimization — mechanisms that detect cardinality misestimates at runtime and rebuild plans on the fly, recovering up to 500× on hard join benchmarks. She is also an active PostgreSQL core contributor, authoring committed features such as VALUES-to-ANY conversion and OR-clauses-to-SAOP transformation.
